It seems like this holiday really crept up on me this year. School has kept me extremely busy and between my classes and homework this year October really zoomed by. You see Halloween is more then just a holiday for me, Halloween is my Birthday. I got my first text message around 8 am from Syd. My phone buzzed constantly after that. It was a great reminder on just how much I'm loved!
When I came home between classes this note was on my desk with a cute framed picture of our trip to St. George from Paige. I'm so thankful for my loving roomies who make me smile. It's been a rough couple of weeks and they keep me laughing and smiling. After Metaphor Paige took me out to dinner at TGI Fridays and then we went and saw a movie. It was great to get out on a school night and not worry about doing homework or cooking dinner. I'm excited to go home this weekend and celebrate my birthday with my family!

First Snowfall...
I think I'll take the 65-70 degree weather we had in St. George when we went play! I'm not going to lie it's fun to see the mountains dusted with snow, but the ground is too warm so its slush... I guess this means winter is just around the corner...

St. George or Bust...

| we stopped in Ceder City and ate at Cafe Rio for lunch. |
We checked into our hotel around 3:30 pm and relaxed for a little bit. We were all excited for the show that night and a bit hyper. Tay, one of Paigie's friends from Tremonton climbed in the wardrobe and we joked that she was heading to Narnia... After some window shopping went to to dinner and headed to the Tuscahn to see Aladdin!

Poetry Midterm
Fiend of Anathema
Mid April already, and the wild plums
start to bloom outside her window.
Entranced by the lines longing for
words to jump from her head.
Becoming perpetuated on the fibers,
yet her mind houses a sleeping giant.
From the rise and fall of his nostrils
come befuddling words forming messages.
In its home, a cave of grandeur;
foreboding catatonia for its presence.
A chance to be intertwined, gaining
the courage to be affixed.
Yet
the solitary creature slinks into the abyss.
A fellow of habit, darkness its desire,
a hunt that will never be won.
For this brutish beast flies solo!
Sweet blossoms lull her back to reality.
A sense of awe edges onto her face,
the whole parchment is covered
every single line.

Philosophy of Literature Midterm
River Speaks is inspired by the relationship Siddhartha forms with the river in the book Siddhartha. After learning the art of ferrying people across the river, Siddhartha learns to listen to the knowledge the river contains. He spends many days sitting in silence by the river in mediation receiving enlightenment from the source that never stops moving.
River Speaks
The brook babbles and the river rushes
Waterfalls have power as the raging water crushes
Yet it speaks to those who listen clear
A mystical power that provokes extreme fear
But one my learn a great secret
Sit quietly, and listen. The river may allow you to
keep it
The seeker must long for a place of insight
A river speaks its mind, and brings forth light
Something so trivial contains such power
Yet has the dominion to make one cower
Give yourself to the raging river
For it sees all and is an eternal giver
Dystopia was written
with the book Brave New World in mind. We all would love a world where pain and
sorrow didn’t exist, but would we be willing to go as far as the people in
these two novels went? Every single action comes with consequences.
Dystopia
Imagine a world free of pain.
Everyone has a place; pure happiness.
Conceived in the lab, and grown in a tube.
A factory for people; assembly line
Ridged training for their place in society
Everyone belongs to everyone
No pain, no love, no burdens
Soma the nectar of the gods
Numbs the emotions, the real you.
Day by day the same life
Free thinking is unacceptable
We do what the magic voice states
Human conditioning your Fordship
Reservations for the savages, and
Islands, for those who think too much
The Taboo of Anathema
is written after some deep thought on John, the savage, in Brave New World.
When you hear about john’s life you can’t help but feel torn. John belongs in a
world where he simply just doesn’t belong. He doesn’t belong on the reservation
because he is white and he doesn’t belong in the new world because he’s savage.
This is john’s story.
The Taboo of Anathema
Restraint, my life has been spent
chained
People come in but I never go out.
I am different, mother is different
Forgotten in this desolate place
Hindrance, I don’t belong. Why?
Mother isn’t understood
They call me savage. I am John.
The fence disappears I’m free
Snag, reservation is never gone.
Allegory there is none
They call me savage, but is it true?
Their life contains paradox
Obstacle, there is no hope.
Living research they scrutinize
No were to hide. I’m enslaved
An anomaly bringing celebration
Bound, I am John.
The noose my true companion
Swaying, swinging, suspended
He is gone, the savage.
Fable of the Grotto is
written with inspiration from the allegory of the cave by Plato. Plato speaks
to his students about how people are ignorant to the real world. Using his
allegory of the cave he allows us to see that most people only believe what’s in
their tiny cave. In order to learn all
the world has to offer we must open our minds and be freed from the cave.
Fable of the Grotto
He had never seen the sunlight
Chained in the shadows giving little insight
Naïve, lost and ridged and cold
Unchained and forced to do what he was told
The shadows of the past had a label
Life consisted of much babel
So he made the steps to evolve
He would go back and help many solve
The truth of the dark, scary cave
And so many he would save
But they were frivolous and slow
Fear crept in and they refused to go
His crusade was all in vain
One may not obtain what they don’t wish to gain
We must open our eyes and not be blind
Lift the burrier and open your mind

Week Seven
I cannot believe that its midterm time! It feels like we just started classes last week. Its been a hectic couple of weeks hence the lack of posts. Loads of reading, writing and critiquing. I feel behind all the time and laugh when my friends ask me what I am doing over the weekend. All in all though I'm doing well in all my classes. Some are far more difficult then others though. I find my photo seminar class making me want to tare my hair out. I'm learning lots but at the same time that class makes me feel so inatiquit.
On the positive side I'm meeting with the head of creative writing to get all the kinks worked out with my portfolio so I'm on track for graduation in the end of April! I'm excited to be that close to having my bachelors. Then the process for my MFA starts...

Problem Solved....
My apartment is an older duplex and is extremely drafty. With the Fall weather here and winter around the corner I was doomed to freezing in my ice box of an apartment. (Yes we have a furnace it's just the windows are old and let in cool air) Any ways remember those jammies we all use to wear when we were little in the winter? Well this chickadee got some to wear around her drafty apartment! its like a warm blanket all over! Which is perfect for our living room when I'm watching stuff with the roomies! Plus I can throw it on over my clothes....
